Greetings on World Environment Day

I extend my warm greetings and best wishes to all on the occasion of World Environment Day.

The annual celebration of World Environment Day is an important platform to generate awareness and encourage enhanced actions for the protection of the environment. The World Environment Day 2022 theme #OnlyOneEarth calls for collective and transformative changes to policies and choices to enable cleaner, greener, and sustainable living in harmony with nature.

Environmental protection and conservation have been the prime concern of the State Government and the government will continue to engage in new and potentially more sustainable policies and approaches to protect the sanctity of Mother Nature. The conservation activities require widespread participation to strengthen relationships with nature and adopt environmentally friendly practices. In our endeavour to conserve our environment, the state government imposed a ban on single-use plastic, including packaged water bottles up to 2 litres within the state.

Sikkim has consistently advocated for environmental protection and conservation, winning several accolades for our efforts. I urge our citizens to pledge to collectively and dedicatedly perform our responsibilities towards our environment and keep it healthy and clean. Together we can contribute toward the global action of preserving our environment for our future generation

Delighted to plant a sapling of a white palm tree at Saramsa garden on the occasion of the World Environment Day.

A historic day for Sikkim as the Blue Duke butterfly is unveiled as the state butterfly of Sikkim during the World Environment Day celebrations at Saramsa garden. Similarly, the Chief Minister’s Green School Rolling Trophy and State Green School Award were also presented on the occasion.
